L’articolo esamina criticamente la recente storiografia economica
sull’industria siderurgica e sull’industria meccanica italiana in età
contemporanea, partendo da alcune considerazioni sul ruolo giocato
dallo Stato nel processo di industrializzazione del Paese. Tra i
principali filoni di ricerca sul tema è emerso un crescente interesse
verso la storia d’impresa, ma ci sono spazi o percorsi di indagine
ancora da esplorare o che meriterebbero maggiore attenzione.

The paper is a critical review of the recent economic
historiography on
the italian steel and mechanical industry in contemporary age,
beginning from some considerations on the role played by the state in
the industrialization process of the country. Among the main research
topics on the subject, a growing interest in business history has
emerged, though there are areas or pathways of investigation still to
be explored or which deserve more attention.
