Nell’ultimo ventennio la storia marittima, pur essendo ancora alla
ricerca di una propria identitą, ha visto un ampliamento degli
orizzonti interpretativi e un crescente interesse da parte degli
studiosi, i cui lavori hanno gettato luce su aspetti inediti della Blu
economy e sul complesso rapporto degli italiani con il mare. Il
contributo si sofferma sui principali risultati dell’attivitą di
ricerca e sul vivace dibattito storiografico, ponendo specifica
attenzione alle fonti documentarie e ai temi non ancora
sufficientemente esplorati.

Over the last twenty years, maritime history, while still searching for
its own identity, has seen an extension of interpretative horizons and
an increasing interest from scholars whose work has shed light on
unprecedented aspects of the Blue economy and on the complex
relationship between Italians and the sea. This contribution focuses on
major results from research activities and on a lively historiographic
debate, paying attention to documentary sources and to topics not
sufficiently explored yet.
