Una banca pubblica per l’elettricità: l’Icipu. Dalle origini alla nazionalizzazione elettrica

L’Istituto di Credito per le Imprese di Pubblica Utilità fu uno dei cosiddetti «enti Beneduce». Nato nel 1924, l’Icipu, fin dalla sua origine, aveva come scopo il sostegno finanziario all’elettrificazione del Paese, e rappresentava un’alternativa allo strapotere raggiunto dalle banche miste, Comit e Credit, in materia di finanziamenti alle società elettriche, stimolando l’attenzione del risparmio privato. Dunque, l’Icipu fu una vera banca pubblica per l’elettricità fino alla nazionalizzazione del settore nel 1962.

The Istituto di Credito per le Imprese di Pubblica Utilità was one of the so-called Beneduce’s authorities. The Icipu was born in 1924, and, from its origins, it had as its purpose the financial support for the electrification of the country. It represented an alternative to the dominant power of the full-service banks, Comit and Credit, in terms of financing the electric companies, by encouraging private savings. Thus, the Icipu was a true public electricity bank until the sector was nationalized in 1962.
